Introducing the ʻEkolu Tiny Tenor – Limited Edition 10th Anniversary Model
For the first time ever, I’m offering this very special instrument in my shop and as a music educator, I am genuinely excited about what it makes possible.
The ʻEkolu Tiny Tenor was created in collaboration with 6-time Grammy Award-winning producer Daniel Ho and master luthier Pepe Romero Jr. of Romero Creations. Their shared vision blends innovation, world music influence, and master craftsmanship into something truly unique.
Why Three Strings?
ʻEkolu means “three” in Hawaiian. This model pays homage to three-string instruments like the Sanshin of Okinawa and the Balalaika of Russia.
But here’s what excites me most as a teacher:
With only three strings:
• Chord shapes are simpler
• Hand positions are more open and relaxed
• Difficult, discouraging chords are eliminated
• Students experience success faster
So many of my students struggle with:
• 4-finger chords
• Barre chords
• Hand fatigue
• Dreaded shapes like E and Bm
The ʻEkolu is a solution to that problem.
It removes physical barriers while keeping the musical richness. For beginners, it builds confidence. For seasoned players, it opens creative possibilities.
The Tiny Tenor Design
The Tiny Tenor is the model that started it all for Romero Creations.
It features:
• Tenor scale length (for full, warm tone)
• Concert body size (for comfort and portability)
• Big sound in a compact instrument
You get the depth of a tenor with the ease of a smaller build — perfect for travel, teaching, or everyday playing.

This complete package includes:

As a full-time music educator, I care deeply about instruments that remove frustration and invite people into music-making. The ʻEkolu does exactly that.
If you’ve ever felt limited by difficult chord shapes… this might be the instrument that changes everything.
