Today we begin the Ukulele Course for Children!
What do children need in order to begin?
- An ukulele that is a REAL instrument (not a toy)
- A clip-on tuner or a tuning app on a phone
- PDF songbook (optional)

Fretboard stickers (also optional, you can use stickers you have!)
Course objectives
Throughout this course children will:
- Hold an ukulele with proper posture
- Hold an ukulele with proper hand positioning
- Play chords
- Strum
- Fingerpick melodies
- Tune using a clip-on tuner
- Tune using an app
- Play 20 songs
Course Pre-Requisite Video
Prepare for the challenge using this video:
Tune Your Ukulele
Adults: please tune the child's ukulele using this video (they will learn how to tune later in the course, once they have gained a few skills).
Ukulele Body Parts (Anatomy)
In this video you will learn the names of the body parts we will use in the next few videos of our course!
Ukulele Placement - Holding the Ukulele Correctly
Children will position their strumming hand, fretboard hand, thumb, and learn to leave space between them and their body to allow the ukulele to vibrate.
How to Strum - Strumming and Matching Tempo
Children will start strumming and matching my tempo (speed) as we start reading basic music notation
Your First Chord! Let's Play C Chord
Children will start strumming and matching my tempo (speed) as we start reading basic music notation
More Chords! Am and C7
Children will review C chord from the previous lesson and add 2 more chords to their skills.
Two-Finger Chords: A and F
Children will place two fingers on the fretboard at the same time to help them ensure all strings ring and produce a quality tone.
Your First Chord Progression
Children will start connecting the chords they have learned in previous videos. This video will prepare them for the songs that are coming soon!
