My trip to Greenland too a weird turn...
Share
I haven't shared much about the Greenland trip because I've been trying to wrap my head around some of the things that happened on this trip.
As a Grammy Award winner and music producer, Daniel gets invited to perform around the world and he often gets invited back. This was his second time coming to Greenland to perform for the locals.
We were told we would be performing at Nuuk Center, at a university campus, and at the U. S. Consulate. This is pretty standard for these types of cultural exchange programs, so we hadn't thought much about what could/would happen.
As soon as we arrived, this trip took a bit of a weird turn... we landed in Nuuk on the same day as an American politician and the local press release stated that we arrived WITH HIM! This startled the locals and some of our performances were canceled. (Please don't get into politics in the comments, as I try to keep community focused on music and being a politics-free space). We later learned this politician was attending a business conference.
As a band, we decided to make the best of our trip and enjoy playing for the locals in a different way... by simply playing while we went sightseeing. This made for a wonderful experience because we got to learn about people in a one-on-one environment. On this water taxi we met a lovely girl who dreams of visiting the U. S., a police officer, and a surgeon.
The consulate office employees tried their best to let everyone know that our flight and arrival was completely different and unrelated, but the damage had been done. We still performed at the consulate office, as they knew that our visits were completely unrelated, and it was a HUGE honor to play the Greenlandic national anthem there.
I plan on sharing more pictures and videos, but I was processing everything and trying to put some space between us being there and the incidents that took place.
THANKFULLY the locals we met one-on-one could see that we were just a bunch of ukulele players who were there to jam and bring aloha~
Thank you so so so so much for your support. I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I get these types of invitations BECAUSE OF YOU! If it weren't for this loving community, I wouldn't get noticed. Thank you thank you!!
Love,
Bernadette
